General Information for Users of ASM Journal Sites

Institutional Subscribers

An online institutional subscription to the ASM journals provides users and librarians with several useful features, including immediate access to newly accepted primary-research manuscripts published online up to 12 weeks before final publication, final issues that include author-supplied Supplemental Material for selected articles, an e-mail-based alerting service that delivers electronic Table of Contents or newly accepted manuscript notifications, journal medical search and browsing, COUNTER compliant usage statistics, and direct links to outside databases including PubMed Central. Ordering Procedures

General Procedures:
Submit your order and payment to your subscription agent or directly to the ASM Institutional Subscription Office. If you are ordering through a subscription agent, it is important that they submit your site administrator contact information to us. This will allow us to process your order promptly and contact the correct individual with activation instructions via e-mail. Once your order and payment have been received and processed by ASM's Institutional Subscription Office, a letter or e-mail with instructions for obtaining access to the online journal(s) will be sent to your site administrator. This letter will give direction to an online form to provide the following information necessary to activate the online subscription:

  • Institution's IP address(es)
  • Site Administrator name, title, phone, fax, and e-mail
  • Customer number (included in the letter)

Activating Your Institutional Subscription:
You must agree to the terms of the online click-through site license before access will be granted. Once you have accepted the agreement terms and conditions, you may activate your online subscription.»

Renewing Institutional Subscriptions:
Before you renew, it is important that you review the subscription agreement terms and conditions (site license) that apply to the year for which you are renewing, since the license may have changed from that of the previous subscription year. Please review ASM's 2010 site license. By activating your subscription, you agree to our subscription license terms and conditions.

Subscription Term:
An online subscription is for the calendar year. Once a subscription terminates, further access to the online journal will be denied unless renewed. However, free access is granted to a journal's archive (i.e., issues published more than six [6] months previously for the primary-research journals and one [1] year previously for the review journals) subject to the terms and conditions outlined in the site license agreement.

Inquiries regarding institutional subscription orders may be directed to the ASM Institutional Subscription Office or one of the agents.
